Ombudsmen are required to attend Ombudsman Basic Training (OBT)
within six weeks of their appointment, per OPNAVINST 1750.1 series. OBT
schedules are posted by state and installation at the Ombudsman Training
Schedules link. Some classes are offered in remote locations for
Reserve and other isolated ombudsmen. OBT is standardized and any
ombudsman, active duty or Reserve, can attend any training as approved
by their commanding officer.
CNIC now offers (eOBT), an electronic version of OBT which consists
of five webinar modules and four on-demand modules. eOBT training is
available to all command ombudsmen, however, ombudsmen are encouraged to
attend OBT classroom training at their local FFSC whenever possible.
Senior leadership staff, senior leadership spouses, and FFSC staff may
attend on a space available basis.
All Ombudsman Program webinars require the user to have an account on
the Learning Management System (LMS). This is a separate account from
your Ombudsman Registry account. To create an account go to
LMS.
After
creating your account, you may log in to register for the desired
training. Certificates of attendance will be available on the LMS after
you have completed each webinar.
